This is a shooting based introductory photography course. The class combines basic exercises around the principles and techniques of the camera, photographic materials, processes, and the history and development of photography. Certain techniques for image processing and print production are covered. With an emphasis on personal vision, this course is designed to develop art related technology skills, understand basic photographic theory, personal aesthetics, and critical thinking about photography. Participants will become proficient in using a DSLR camera (digital-single lens reflex) and/or any camera students have available, editing images in software editing programs, and critiquing their peers’ work. Participants will end in creating thoughtful, succinct photographic body of work that they will present along with a written artist statement.
Course Length: 8 weeks / meeting twice a week for 2 hours per class
Course Cost: $200 for 8 weeks
